Oxigen Training Camp – 29 aprilie – 4 mai 2014

As days are passing, the Oxigen pe Munte (Oxygen on the mountain), Alpine expeditions for beginners, 3^rd Edition is nearing its end. There isn’t a lot of time left until the training camp – the place where we’ll figure out what we have learned, we’ll test what we have done up to now and we’ll certainly get closer to the mountain.

The camp will include: mountain-climbing, orientation, hygiene, weather forecasting, mountain treks… and many other things that only we know about, as a sum of what we have learned out of the 6 mountain-climbing expeditions in this edition.

This year’s Oxigen Training Camp will take place at Piscul Negru in Fagaras, between 29^th of April – 4^th of May 2014.

The price includes: lodgings – 5 nights, breakfast plus dinner and the activities mention earlier, as well as the necessary equipment. We will rarely be at the chalet during lunch hours.

Internships and workshops for students (both Bachelor and Master students)

The Oxigen Association in partnership with the Academy of Economic Studies is organizing practice internships and workshops for students and MSc students

Period: April-May 2014

Practice internships include workshops in Bucharest and in the country.

Workshops in Bucharest:

negotiating with a business partner;
communicating inside a group: “A man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that worm”;
administrating business – why is so much bureaucracy needed;
Project Management in a travel agency.

Workshops in the country.For putting into practice the knowledge but also for achieving new ones, the students will follow a minimum of 2 out of 3 practice workshops(click on each of them for more details):

In the heart of the country – Brasov – Bran – Rasnov- Prahova Valley; 26-27 April 2014 or 31 May-1 June 2014;
Transfagarasan – Fountain of legeneds;10-11 May 2014;
Olt Valley – Sibiu – on the traces of the oldest settlements in Romania 24-25 May 2014.

Professional abilities achieved after the practice internships:

capacity to analyze and synthesize;
interpersonal communication;
apacity to sustain a coherent and logical speechin public;
capacity to evaluate and self-evaluate;
negotiation ability;
ability to collaborate with experts from other domains;
capacity to put into practice the achieved knowledge;
capacity to explore;
capacity of teamworking;
capacity to manage administrative activities;
capacity of promoting products and services.

After the practice internship the students will obtain:

covenant/certificate of practice(number of hours, punctuality, discipline, amount of practical knowledge achieved);
appreciation;
volunteer certificate.

The price of the practice workshops in the country is 200 RON/workshop and includes:

transportation with a 3*** classified bus in the mentioned locations;
accommodation for 1 night in a 3*** classified pension/hotel.

Practice ASE-Bucharest

The Oxygen Association& Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest organizes practical vocational programs in the framework of university for the license and master’s degree.

Through this partnership, students are offered the opportunity to become familiar with the atmosphere of a hotel, or a travel agency and know workflow activities, within all departments, supporting direct employees, in order to carry out daily activities.

Within the framework of the practical training courses, students are given the opportunity to be in contact with real environment, to pass level barrier theoretically, deploy knowledge gained during the years of study and to improve their professional skills to meet the challenges of today’s tourism industry (organizing trip, presentation trip to coach to the microphone, presentation tourist objectives, etc. )

As a result of compulsory practice students will obtain:

the convention / certificate of practice (number of hours, punctuality, discipline, the degree of increasing awareness of practical knowledge);
assessment ;
certificate of a volunteer;

Alin Tava Memorial, 3rd Edition

Oxygen Association, with the support of „Clubului Montan EcoXtrem si Salvamont Arges” will hold the „Alin Tava Memorial”, 3rd edition, on 9-11 of March 2012, an educational competition with the theme „Rescuing Techniques in Case of Avalanche”. The contest is adressed for all the mountain lovers, members of the mountain clubs and tourism and for the members of National Association of Mountain Rescuers from Romania.

Alin Tava was a mountain rescuer who died in 2005, at the age of 28, caught by an avalanche on the path between „Capra” Cabin and „Cota 2000” rescue shelter from Fagaras Mountains. The event proposes both avalanche risk awareness and teaching elementary knowledge about rescuing injured people from avalanches.

The memorial will take place in Fagaras Mountains, near Transfagarasan km 105, at the glade near „Conacul Ursului” Cabin. The accomodation can be made at „Piscul Negru”, „Paltinu Cota 1200” cabin for the amount of 35 RON/night or 60 RON/2 nights or at the other cabins in the area.

The memorial will be conducted as a three man team contest, mandatory mixed(participants of both sexes). Only 2 members of National Association of Mountain Rescuers from Romania can be in the same team.

The trials of competition are:

Transport of AKJA, consisting of lifting of AKJA barrow for a distance of 30-40m, on a 45-50° slope, moving on a leveled curve for a distance of 20-30m, launch on a distance of 30-40m on a a 45-50° slope.
Searching in an avalanche with PIEPS devices
Identifying of different objects covered by snow with the help of a avalanche probe
Building a shelter in the snow
Medical theory exam

Mandatory equipment: snow boots, snow fences, gloves, waterproof pants, headlamp, a rope of 20-30m per team

Event schedule:

Friday 9 March
– 6:00 PM, welcoming the participants at the „Conacul Ursului” cabin
Saturday 10 March
– 1:00 PM, technical meeting(„Conacul Ursului” cabin)
– 2:00 PM, team contest entry
– 8:30 PM, entertainment program
Sunday 11 March
– 12:00 PM, giving the awards to participants

The love of nature

Have you ever thought that the habit of a nation may influence the understanding manner of “love of nature” concept?

Well, yes! And from those cultural differences, at some peoples the action of these love have gained distinctive shapes.

I am going to talk about two countries and their way to love nature: Norway and India. Why them? Because in these countries, the love of nature was define and, in the same time, released social ecological movements.

The first is the Norway people whose “love of nature” materialized in friluftsliv phenomenon.

Some mountaineers make out case for this love by friluftsliv or the exploring of nature/life in fresh air. Although this concept had a positive effect in a rich, but less populated country context, her widely relevance is questioned.

In a profound sense of the concept, nature is not any corner of greens, but that wild, „archetypal” nature remained largely untouched by human society. One of the basic principles of friluftsliv is that we should not be considered tourists, but friends of nature. Under this influence of the Romantic Movement, friendship with nature is based on her understanding and her understanding can be achieved by spending as much time outdoors, away from civilized society environments, following its rhythms, contours and dynamics. The ultimate goal of friluftsliv is that the nature should become our true home. A house in which there is no technology, in which the influence of human civilization is minimal.

In India, Chipko movement – which purpose is to save trees by hugging – it was proven to be a much wider expression of love of nature. The pleaders of this movement are embracing trees not to be cut, involving very deep connection. Unlike frilufsliv initial protests of this movement were based on concrete economic reason: residents of the areas where trees were being cut didn’t want to remove completely this activity, they wanted to make the people that did that to take responsibility of their act and to have control over the trees that were being cut.

While in friluftsliv, the love is expressed in terms of an idealized friendship, in Chipko it takes the form of a family relationship. The trees are seen as mothers or brothers. Women link to the trees with traditional Indian thread that symbolize indestructibility of family relationship.

In what’s concerning us, Romanian people, we don’t have a love of nature model defined from social and cultural point of view. Even if we watch the wild dynamic of it or we hug trees, rocks, even if we kiss the ground, the important thing is that, under the emotional impulse which determines us to do those things, to act in benefit of protecting and maintaining the nature.

After a long day at work, what are we looking at if not to nature and to so called “fresh air”?

2nd Edition of Mountain Expedition for Begginers

Because we love nature, movement and good mood we thought not to keep the joy of going on a mountain trip with a joyful bunch of guys or the emotion of a song on a firecamp only for us. So…

We invite you to join us on your first steps on mountain paths!

If you did that, it’s even better! Here you will have the opportunity to find new friend for your future mountain trips.

Oxygen on the Mountain Program adresses mainly for young people. It’s a training stage in mountain tourism domain. Here young people will have the opportunity to develop their teamwork and leadership skills, essential for your future!

The program will take place between: October 2012- June 2013

„Oxygen on the Mountain” program includes two categories of activities:

Mountain expeditions that will take place once a month, in weekend(Saturday-Sunday). Travelling will be done with a train or a bus and the accomodation will be at an alpin hut. It will be thematic expeditions at the mountains: Bucegi, Ciucas, Baiului, Piatra Craiului, Cozia and Ceahlau, Fagaras.

Weekly workshops in Bucharest.

Here we will present and talk about themes related to mountains: mountain equipment, food, mountain hazards, premedical first aid, guidance techniques, surviving in tough environment, alpinism, meteorology, ecology, psychology of the tourist, mountain geography.

The attendance for workshops is free.

At the final of the program, we will organise a training camp for a week where you will practice your knowledge gathered during the period of preparation. At the end you will recieve a Graduation Certificate of the „Oxygen on the Mountain” program accompanied by a skill assessment sheet.

Come at the opening at the date of 24th of October 2012, 19:00 PM at the Independent Cultural Center Carol 53, or „people’s home” on the Carol Boulevard nr.53 Bucharest(near Armeneasca Church).

First expedition will take place in the weekend 3-4 november 2012 in Fagaras Mountains.
