Alin Tava Memorial, 3rd Edition
Oxygen Association, with the support of „Clubului Montan EcoXtrem si Salvamont Arges” will hold the „Alin Tava Memorial”, 3rd edition, on 9-11 of March 2012, an educational competition with the theme „Rescuing Techniques in Case of Avalanche”. The contest is adressed for all the mountain lovers, members of the mountain clubs and tourism and for the members of National Association of Mountain Rescuers from Romania.
Alin Tava was a mountain rescuer who died in 2005, at the age of 28, caught by an avalanche on the path between „Capra” Cabin and „Cota 2000” rescue shelter from Fagaras Mountains. The event proposes both avalanche risk awareness and teaching elementary knowledge about rescuing injured people from avalanches.
The memorial will take place in Fagaras Mountains, near Transfagarasan km 105, at the glade near „Conacul Ursului” Cabin. The accomodation can be made at „Piscul Negru”, „Paltinu Cota 1200” cabin for the amount of 35 RON/night or 60 RON/2 nights or at the other cabins in the area.
The memorial will be conducted as a three man team contest, mandatory mixed(participants of both sexes). Only 2 members of National Association of Mountain Rescuers from Romania can be in the same team.
The trials of competition are:
- Transport of AKJA, consisting of lifting of AKJA barrow for a distance of 30-40m, on a 45-50° slope, moving on a leveled curve for a distance of 20-30m, launch on a distance of 30-40m on a a 45-50° slope.
- Searching in an avalanche with PIEPS devices
- Identifying of different objects covered by snow with the help of a avalanche probe
- Building a shelter in the snow
- Medical theory exam
Mandatory equipment: snow boots, snow fences, gloves, waterproof pants, headlamp, a rope of 20-30m per team

Friday 9 March
– 6:00 PM, welcoming the participants at the „Conacul Ursului” cabin
Saturday 10 March
– 1:00 PM, technical meeting(„Conacul Ursului” cabin)
– 2:00 PM, team contest entry
– 8:30 PM, entertainment program
Sunday 11 March
– 12:00 PM, giving the awards to participants
